I’ve just got back from a 5 day holiday. Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t do auto posting and I never bothered asking for guest posters. Because of this, my blog hasn’t been updated for at least 5 days. The last time time I was away from my blog I was lucky, there was no real slump in traffic and people where still commenting on my posts. This time it’s completely the opposite. My traffic is pathetic and I’ve received no comments. I know there’s an easy way to get by traffic going again, I could spend a few days dropping on 300 different Entrecard widgets. But, I made a promise to myself that I was going to limit the amount of time I spent dropping cards and try to find other decent sources of traffic. Traffic that wants to actually read my blog. 
Because I’m still a blogging noob, I only really get traffic that I generate myself. People are starting to come via Google and the other search engines, but my SE stats are nothing to write home about. Anyway, an example of traffic I generate myself would be, posting helpful advice on a forum and leaving a sneaky link to my blog. Commenting on lots and lots of blogs also brings in a few visits. Like I said though, I’m still a noob, loosing a lot of traffic makes me feel like I’m starting out again. Not good for morale. I think next time I decide to take a holiday, I’ll definitely have someone post for me or I’ll ask a friend to post a draft I’ve written. Game on!

Hey! I still drop because I drop off my own list and show loyalty to those who have dropped on me in the past. Next time write a few fluff pieces but don’t publish them. Then in WordPress, change the date of the post to a time in the future when you are gone, click publish, and the post will appear on the day you want while on vacation. The other alternative is to use the post by email feature WordPress has. Welcome back!

Hi Turnip, I normally drop the last 100 to drop on me, maybe a few more if I’m still logged in. Now that we can see more or less everyone who’s dropped on our widgets, I’ll probably end up dropping 300 a day again. I feel guilty when I don’t follow back.
Ahhh, I never knew about auto posting.
Well I’ll have to jot that down for future reference. Thx for the tips
