With only 2 posts to my name, I’m hardly the best person to be talking to you about setting a blog up. But to be honest, you don’t really need to be a blogging guru to explain the whole process. The most popular blogging platform out there is WordPress. It’s easy to set up and maintain and with 1000’s of sites out there dedicated to WordPress, you’re never going to be stuck looking for support.
A lot of blogs out there are built using Blogger. I looked at Blogger but I was put off by the search bar and other mumbo jumbo they place at the top of your blog. Have a look around at the different options out there, use the one that suits you. I chose WordPress because it’s easy to customise and it has a great community too.

The next thing is hosting. To start with you’re best option is to go with a free host like me. I don’t see the point in using paid hosting when your blog is brand spanking new. Traffic levels are going to be low. So why throw your money away paying for bandwidth you’re not going to be using? Research is really going to help you when choosing your host. Look for sites with a high percentage of uptime. You don’t want your blog going off-line every other day do you? Try to find a host that isn’t going to cover your nice new blog with advertisements and banners. But the most important thing to do is ask around! I recommend http://www.110mb.com/as a free host. Infact, I think they’re better than a lot of paid hosts. Here’s a few reasons why.
- 5 GB Disk Space
- 300 GB Monthly Bandwidth
- 99.8% Uptime Guarantee
- Own Domain Allowed
(I did pay for a few special benefits. MySql, sendmail and htaccess)
Once you’ve chosen your blogging platform and host add them both together and away you go. You now have a your very own blog. The great thing about having a blog is it enables you to post about anything you want. Your not limited to one specific area like a lot of websites are. In the beginning my original plan was to create a website based on dance music. But setting this up on my own and keeping it updated with fresh daily content would have been a pain in the backside. Mind you, if this blog goes well the music site might be in the pipeline again.
